Trait

Nutrigenomics, made personal

Nutrition, drawn from your DNA.

Your biology already knows what it needs. We read it, and build a single formula from what we find.

Meet your code

Three billion letters. All yours.

The most personal data that exists, written the day you were conceived and unchanged ever since.

It's full of traits

Every trait, written in.

How you activate folate. Make vitamin D. Process stress, fat, caffeine. Each one spelled out in your genes.

We read what matters

200+ markers. Decades of research.

We focus on the variants with the strongest published links to what your body can actually use.

One answer

Then we answer them — in one bottle.

Not a shelf of guesses. A single formula, blended for exactly one person. You.

How it works

Four steps to your formula.

Step 01

Order your kit

Included free with your membership. A simplified DNA collection kit arrives at your door in 3–5 days.

Step 02

Swab and send

A 30-second cheek swab. No blood, no clinic visit. Seal it, drop it in the prepaid return mailer.

Step 03

We analyze your DNA

Our CLIA-certified lab genotypes 710,000 data points. We evaluate 200+ curated markers across 10 categories.

Step 04

Your formula arrives

One custom-blended bottle, manufactured for your biology at an NSF cGMP facility. Shipped to your door.

The science

Built on genomics, not guesswork.

Every person carries unique genetic variants, called SNPs, that affect how they absorb, process, and utilize nutrients. A variant in your MTHFR gene might mean you need active folate instead of folic acid. A VDR variant could mean your vitamin D requirements are higher than average.

We evaluate 200+ curated SNPs across 10 categories, from methylation and inflammation to lipid metabolism and oxidative stress. Each marker maps to peer-reviewed research connecting genotype to nutrient need.

The result is a formula that isn't based on population averages. It's based on you.

The research

Decades of peer-reviewed evidence. Cited, not invented.

Every SNP in our panel and every nutrient we recommend traces back to published research. A representative sample of what our rules engine is built on:

Methylation

Genetic variation in the MTHFR gene (rs1801133) substantially affects folate metabolism, with TT homozygotes showing ~30% reduced enzyme activity vs. CC.

Frosst P, et al. Nat Genet. 1995; 10(1):111–113. PMID 7647779.

Personalization works

Disclosure of nutrigenomic test results changed dietary intake in a 1,000-participant RCT, confirming individuals act on personalized genetic guidance.

Nielsen DE, El-Sohemy A. PLoS One. 2014; 9(11):e112665. DOI 10.1371/journal.pone.0112665.

Vitamin D

VDR polymorphisms (BsmI, TaqI, FokI) modulate vitamin D-driven calcium uptake and bone density, supporting genotype-informed vitamin D dosing.

Uitterlinden AG, et al. Gene. 2004; 338(2):143–156. DOI 10.1016/j.gene.2004.05.014.

Omega-3 metabolism

FADS1 (rs174546) variants explain meaningful inter-individual differences in omega-3 conversion efficiency from ALA to EPA/DHA.

Schaeffer L, et al. Hum Mol Genet. 2006; 15(11):1745–1756. DOI 10.1093/hmg/ddl117.

Glucose regulation

TCF7L2 (rs7903146) is the strongest common genetic predictor of type 2 diabetes risk, a tier-1 SNP for glucose-pathway nutrient support.

Grant SF, et al. Nat Genet. 2006; 38(3):320–323. DOI 10.1038/ng1732.

Field overview

Personalised nutrition is more effective than population-level dietary advice when grounded in validated biomarkers, including genotype.

Ordovas JM, Ferguson LR, Tai ES, Mathers JC. BMJ. 2018; 361:bmj.k2173. DOI 10.1136/bmj.k2173.

These are six of hundreds of papers our rules engine pulls from. Trait does not invent science, we apply what’s already been validated, to the specific variants in your genome.

Questions

Frequently asked.

We send you a simple cheek swab kit, no blood draw, no clinic visit. You swab the inside of your cheek for 30 seconds, seal the sample, and mail it back in the prepaid envelope. Our CLIA-certified partner lab genotypes approximately 710,000 data points from your sample. We then evaluate 200+ curated genetic markers that directly impact your nutrient needs.

Absolutely. Your genetic data is processed in a CLIA-certified, HIPAA-compliant laboratory. We never sell, share, or provide your genetic information to third parties, including insurance companies, employers, or law enforcement. Your data is encrypted at rest and in transit. You can request full deletion of your genetic data at any time.

After you mail your DNA kit back, lab processing takes approximately 3–4 weeks. Once your results are in, your custom formula is manufactured at our NSF cGMP facility, typically 5–10 business days, and shipped directly to you. Total timeline from kit to bottle is approximately 5–6 weeks for your first order.

Every formula starts with a foundational base of essential nutrients in their most bioavailable forms, active folate, methylcobalamin B12, chelated zinc, and more. On top of that, your specific genetic variants trigger additions, dosage increases, or form changes. Your customer dashboard shows exactly which ingredients are in your bottle and why each one was selected based on your DNA.

Most competitors use quizzes or blood tests. Quizzes measure what you already know about yourself. Blood tests measure biomarkers that fluctuate daily. DNA is permanent, test once, optimize forever. And unlike pill-pack services that recommend off-the-shelf capsules, we custom-blend a single formula manufactured specifically for you. No two bottles are the same.

The $149 DNA kit is standalone, you pay it once, get your full insights report, and that's complete. The personalized supplement subscription is optional and entirely separate at $159/mo (3-month minimum, billed monthly). Subscription only begins the day your first custom formula ships. You decide whether to opt in after seeing your results, no bundle required.

We’re careful not to make outcome promises, your genetics inform what your body needs, not a guaranteed timeline for feeling different. That said, many members report noticing changes in energy, sleep quality, or general wellbeing within the first 30–60 days. Nutrient optimization is a gradual process, and consistency matters most.

You can cancel anytime after your 3-month commitment period ends. During the commitment period, you can pause your subscription for up to 30 days. If you’re unsatisfied with your first order, contact us within 30 days of receiving your supplement, we’ll work with you to make it right.

No. Your DNA doesn’t change. Once we have your genetic profile, your formula can be remanufactured indefinitely without retesting. We may refine the rules engine over time as new research emerges, which could improve your formula, but you’ll never need another cheek swab.

We recommend consulting your healthcare provider before starting any supplement, especially if you take prescription medications. Your Trait dashboard flags any relevant genetic considerations (like clotting-related variants), and all ingredient forms and dosages are within established safe upper limits. Our formulas are manufactured at an NSF cGMP-certified facility.

I’ve spent years pushing for health and access — with the Climate Reality Project, with ONE. I co-founded Trait because the science to read your own biology already exists; it just sits behind clinics and price tags most people can’t reach. We’re early, and if you join now you’re not a customer number — you’re a founding member who helps shape what this becomes.
